When times are hard, businesses are forced to come up with attractive offers to lure new customers or to prevent the ones they have from looking elsewhere. It emerged this week that Spanish telecommunications giant Telefónica is to offer its customers savings of up to 30 per cent on their ADSL services to persuade those considering cancelling their contracts to think twice.
The company began offering the high speed internet access service in 2002, and has charged 40 euros up until now; as part of the new offer, customers will pay just 27.93 euros a month. However, the company has decided not to advertise the campaign to avoid a massive switch over. According to figures from the Ministry of Industry, Telefónica customers pay the most for a three megabyte connection and line rental (53.87 euros). This is considerably more expensive than the 35.40 euros charged by Jazztel and the 39.90 and 29.95 euros charged by Ono and Yacom respectively.
